Laser hair removal is not only a safe and efficient way to get rid of body hair but also has many other benefits as well. If you’re looking to get rid of fuzz before hitting the lake or pool this summer, consider all of these great perks!
The process of laser hair removal is actually pretty cool — and sounds even a bit like science fiction. Here’s a brief overview of how it all goes down.
A beam of concentrated light is guided over your skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles. In the process, the light heats up the hair and in turn damages the follicle, and makes it unable to grow new hairs. Pretty cool right?
It should be noted that this process works best with people that have dark hair and fair skin. Why? Because for these people the hair has more pigment than the skin — causing it to absorb more light and overall achieve the best result.
Laser hair removal isn’t a completely discomfort free process. How much discomfort it will cause depends entirely on the individual. Your pain tolerance, hair color and the amount of melanin in your skin will all affect how much discomfort you may face.
But the truth is — laser hair removal is far less uncomfortable than waxing. We all know how painful that can be. Another benefit is you don’t have to worry about damage or ripping that wax can cause on the skin.
Laser hair removal offers a better solution to hair removal with far less downtime than most alternatives.
For smooth and no fuzz legs to become reality, there are a few tips we would recommend you stick to before your appointment.
1. Don’t Pluck or Wax
As we mentioned earlier, laser hair removal gets to work at the roots. You want to leave the roots alone for at least 4-6 weeks before your appointment for the best result possible. Shaving is OK and is actually recommended prior to your appointment on the desired area.
2. Shave The Area
Speaking of shaving, you’ll want to shave your legs a day or two before your appointment. This will decrease the chances of any burning of the hair below the surface of the skin. Even if you can’t see the hair because you have shaved, remember that the laser targets the pigment in the roots.
3. Stay Out of The Sun
This tip applies to most treatments we provide, but avoiding the sun prior to your appointment is key. This includes tanning beds or any sort of self-tanners. For at least 2 weeks before your appointment, we recommend you stay out of the sun to decrease any irritative symptoms. You don’t want to risk the chance of discoloration. Also, if you have sunburn on your legs, you won’t be getting laser hair removal. This is because sunburn can cause blistering and a ton of pain during the treatment.
4. Double Check Your Medications
This is a good rule of thumb when it comes to any sort of skin treatment. Speak with your laser technician about any medications you are taking. This includes both oral and topical. Some medications can affect the effectiveness of the laser treatment. This includes any sort of birth control, acne creams, antibiotics…the whole nine. Your laser professional will be able to make any adjustments or decisions about your laser hair removal with the right information.
5. Remove Any Creams
Before your appointment, you should remove all body or leg creams. The ingredients in these products can change the way the treatment works. Lotions, ointments, creams, etc. — all of these and more should be washed off or removed before your laser hair removal.
You want flawless summer legs. These tips will ensure that you have the least amount of side effects possible and get the most out of your appointment.
